Are your products safe? |
 |
Intrinsically safe equipment is defined as "equipment and wiring which is
incapable of releasing sufficient electrical or thermal energy under normal
or abnormal conditions to cause ignition of a specific hazardous atmospheric
mixture in its most easily ignited concentration." (ISA-RP12.6) This is
achieved by limiting the amount of power available to the electrical
equipment in the hazardous area to a level below that which will ignite the
gases.
The level switches we manufacturer are, by themselves, incapable of
releasing electrical or thermal energy. Intrinsic safety is achieved by
limiting the amount of power available to the electrical equipment (ie.
level switches) in the hazardous area to a level below that which will
ignite the gases, or by using an EXPLOSION PROOF apparatus which can contain
an explosion inside the enclosure.
Liquid level switches can be used in hazardous areas without certification
as long as they are wired in conjunction with an approved barrier or by
using an EXPLOSION PROOF apparatus.
We do not currently offer intrinsic barriers to accompany our level switches
but we can offer an explosion proof junction box.
Part# J-BOX EX-JB
*In all cases the intrinsically safe barriers and equipment used with our
level switches MUST be wired per an approved drawing. Capacitance and
inductance of the wiring and cables must be included in the loop evaluation.

How do your products work? |
 |
Level Switches operate on a direct, simple principle.
A float encircling a stationary stem is equipped with permanent magnets. As the float rises or lowers with the liquid level, the magnetic field
generated from within the float actuates a hermetically sealed, magnetic
reed switch mounted within the stem.
