Innovative Components manufactures float switches for pump control, valve automation, and high and low level alarms across industrial and OEM applications. A float switch is a level switch that uses a buoyant float to open or close a circuit as liquid rises or falls, giving you a simple, reliable point-level signal without power-hungry electronics. Our line covers vertical and horizontal single-level switches, custom multi-level assemblies, and field-assembled configurations, in materials matched to your liquid, temperature, and pressure. Every switch is made in the USA with no minimum order, and an engineer is available by phone to help you spec the right one. Browse the float switches below, or contact us to talk through your application.

Choosing the Right Float Switch

Float switches vary by mounting style, number of set points, and wetted materials. The right level switch for your tank depends on how you access it, what it holds, and how many levels you need to detect.

Vertical vs. Horizontal

Vertical float switches mount through the top or bottom of a tank and actuate as the float slides along a stem. They suit tanks with limited side access and applications where you want the switch body out of the flow path. Horizontal side-mount switches enter through the tank wall and pivot as the liquid rises, which works well when top clearance is tight or when a set point sits near a specific side-entry height. See vertical float switches and horizontal float switches.

Single-Level vs. Multi-Level

A standard single-level switch reports one set point: full, empty, or a specific alarm height. Custom multi-level float switches stack multiple floats on one stem to control a pump between start and stop points, or to trigger separate high and low alarms from a single insertion. Field-assembled switches let you build and adjust set points on site using stainless tubes, connectors, and mounting plugs.

Materials and Ratings

Float, stem, and mounting material set the chemical compatibility and temperature range. Buna floats and brass fittings handle water, oil, and fuel; stainless steel handles higher temperatures, corrosive media, and food and beverage service. Contact ratings run from compact 10 VA reed switches to 100 VA versions for direct pump or relay loads. Match the electrical rating to your load, or use a level control relay to switch higher currents.

When to Call Before You Order

Most float switch selections are straightforward, but a few situations are worth a quick conversation: tight clearance between set points, unusual viscosity or specific gravity that affects float buoyancy, and any application with actuator signal or agency-approval requirements. Talk to an engineer to confirm the configuration before you order.
